The 2023 Upland Syrah marks our first year working with this block from Upland Vineyard, and what a discovery it was. The Syrah vines are planted on a perfectly steep, south-facing slope on the backside of Snipes Mountain and managed by one of DeLille’s longest-standing growing partners, Todd Newhouse. The resulting wine is powerful with a silky mouthfeel, opening with a great mix of dark fruits, most notably blackberries and boysenberries, with red fruited accents of red plum and cranberry. Savory snippets of thyme, fresh lavender, and tobacco leaf are woven throughout. The wine is deftly balanced and complete; stunning now or will cellar 15+ years.

2023 Upland Syrah
Upland Vineyard yields fruit that thrives in the rocky, mineral-rich soils of Snipes Mountain and benefits from long, sunlit days and cool, restorative nights. The result is a Syrah that is bold yet beautifully balanced, layered with dark berry fruit, savory spice, and a touch of earthy elegance. With its depth, structure, and strong sense of place, Upland Syrah is a true expression of Washington wine.
Vineyards
Upland Vineyard is a perfectly steep, south-facing slope on the back side of Snipes Mountain managed by one of DeLille’s longest-standing vineyard partners, Todd Newhouse.
Winemaking
Stainless steel fermented, 10-12 days on skins, ~19% whole cluster. Barrel aged 14 months in French oak (22% new).
