2020 Marguerite

The 18 months in élevage and extended time in bottle has certainly succeeded in creating much pleasure for our 2020 Marguerite.  This beautifully concentrated 100% Sauvignon Blanc is exploding with notes of grapefruit, fuzzy peach, vanilla brioche and lemon curd.  The generous palate is focused, nervy, and has an energy that lifts this wine to another level.  There is a flicker of reduction that plays wonderfully with the rich oak and lees characteristics.  Enjoy now or cellar for 10-15 years to experience even more complexity as time shapes this serious effort.

Made from Sauvignon Blanc exclusively, the 2020 Marguerite opens with an oaky, fresh and juicy nose with gorgeous aromas of lemon pastry cream, sweet citrus, notes of cream soda and Meyer lemon. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is impressive, harmonious and impeccably weighted with a food-friendly finish that offers a delightfully textured, ripe blanket of oak and sweet citrus with lingering nuances of underripe peach on the aftertaste. This was 100% barrel fermented and aged for 18 months in 75% new oak, primarily 320-liter cigar-shaped barrels. Just under 3,000 bottles were filled. – Anthony Mueller, Robert Parker Wine Advocate

Behind the Wine

2020 Marguerite

The Marguerite daisy, a flower symbolizing devotion and patience, lends its name to this cuvée. DeLille Cellars has crafted Sauvignon Blanc for over a quarter century, traditionally aging the wines for six months in barrel. For Marguerite, the very best wines are selected to remain in barrel for an additional year. Loyally tended in barrel, this, our best Sauvignon Blanc, is bottled separately, then rested in bottle another year before release. “Maybe the best white wine yet to come from Washington. The streak of fabulous DeLille white wines continues but reaches new heights with this wine. One of the great Sauvignon Blancs produced in America, and I think this is Pessac-Leognan Grand Cru level quality; it’s terrific wine. Specific fruit selection, unique barrel aging, and judicious blending by Jason and his team have created a real masterpiece here. It’s got extraordinary dimension, expression, and harmony; generous yellow fig, fragrant lemon, grass, pear, spiced apple, a little tropical nuance. Long litany of descriptors here. It’s dry, yet weighty; unctuous, yet bright. A complete wine, this thing has it all.” – Bob Betz
