2013 D2 6L

This exceptional vintage demonstrates classical, expressive Merlot notes of floral spices, sweet herbs, pencil shavings, tobacco pouch and mixed berries. There are rich, generous flavors filling the mouth with black cherries, raspberries and kirsch liquor as well as cocoa powder and toasty oak notes. The palate continues with savory qualities tempered by an elegance that has come to define DeLille Cellars. Complete all this with a dramatic finish to experience a memorable and youthful D2.

Ruby-red. Complex, perfumed aroma of blueberry, licorice and cocoa powder. Plush, sweet and deep; this round, seamless, fruit-driven blend boasts terrific immediate appeal. There’s a hint of intriguing salinity here but not quite the umami richness of the outstanding 2012 example, even if this wine possesses riper fruit. Velvety and delicious right now and long and lush on the aftertaste.

Butternut Squash Risotto with Black Truffles

This is a very cool dish because it is vegetarian, yet the cheese and truffles bump it up to a red wine pairing. It is perfect with the DeLille Cellars Merlot-dominant D2. For the carnivorous, add a short rib on top. Vegetarian or not, everyone is happy. Do not fear the truffle. As with many things, they are available on the internet for most of year.
