2022 Rosé

This 2022 edition combines Grenache (50%) with 39% Mourvèdre and the remainder Cinsault. Very fragrant on the nose with white peach and guava notes alongside Yakima cherry and damp soil undertones. The palate is soft and beautifully textured with serious underlying verve. A pure core of red fruit flavors greets you, showing strawberry and red raspberry notes alongside kumquat rind and stony undertones. Complex and delicious, this will age brilliantly for another eight years. Drink 2023-2031

2022 Rosé

Grenache makes up 50% of this wine, with the rest Mourvèdre (39%) and Cinsault. All fermented and aged in stainless steel, it’s a light bronze color with a salmon tinge. Aromas of melon, strawberry, and herb lead to full-bodied, richly-styled fruit flavors that focus on texture and intensity. This is a difficult style to pull off in Washington. This wine does it, with the acidity of the vintage providing a strong assist. 14.1% alcohol.

2022 Rosé

Based largely on Grenache, the 2022 Rose has a Bandol-like style in its savory cherry and strawberry fruit as well as medium-bodied richness and depth on the palate. It’s balanced, complex, has good acidity, and outstanding length.

2021 Rosé

Made from a blend of 49% Mourvèdre, 46% Grenache and 5% Cinsault, the 2021 Rosé opens to classic mineral notes of petrichor and hints of red florals with succulent cherry skin. Medium-bodied, the palate is fresh, focused and restrained, with an elegant mouthfeel and a subtly spiced finish.

2021 Rosé

The 2021 Rosé from DeLille Cellars mixes 50% Grenache, 39% Mourvèdre and 11% Cinsault to create a delicate and pretty bouquet of dusty rose, wild strawberries and brown spice. It opens with a pretty inner sweetness giving way to crisp red fruits and sour melon hints, all energized by vibrant acidity. This finishes remarkably fresh yet a bit short. Candied citrus notes leave a lasting impression.

2020 Rosé

The 2020 Rose by DeLille Cellars has only slightly changed their blend, having 52% Mourvedre, and 43% Grenache with a splash of Cinsault. The nose is wonderfully earthy with melon, citrus blossom and watermelon tones that round out the nose. The mouthfeel and texture of the wine is seriously good. This is refreshing style of Rose with bright red fruits that shows a great sense of weight and length. Gratifying to drink now, this has some cellaring potential.

2019 Rosé

Salmon in color, this has a faint scent of orange blossom. Its flavors are deep and satisfying, structured with tension, drive and an orange-pith bitterness that had me thinking of mild sausages, like bockwurst, with brown mustard.

2018 Rosé

Full orange with a pink tinge. Raspberry, strawberry and quince on the fruit-driven nose. A broad, round, alluring fruit bomb on the palate, easygoing but with serious palate presence. In a distinctly ripe style from a warm vintage, but technically dry in spite of its red berry sweetness. Finishes faintly dusty. A lovely drink, even if it’s not quite as complex or bracing as the 2017 version. (14.4% alcohol)

2017 Rosé

Full orange-pink color. Inviting scents of strawberry, quince and tree bark. Juicy, tactile, rather bracing wine with noteworthy intensity, a distinctly dusty quality and a hint of sweetness. This lovely fruit bomb of a rosé finishes lively and gripping, with sneaky persistence.

2016 ROSÉ

(done entirely in stainless steel): Medium salmon-pink. Perfumed scents of raspberry and watermelon lifted by a floral note. Surprisingly rich yet light on its feet, offering smooth flavors of nectarine and flowers. This wine has more texture than your typical rosé but maintains a lovely light touch. Finishes subtle, broad and long, with excellent grip and no rough edges. Terrific rosé.

2016 ROSÉ

I loved the 2016 Rose from this estate, and it’s based on 46% Grenache, 42% Mourvèdre and the rest Cinsault. Medium-bodied, juicy and lively, it offers terrific notes of orange blossom, spice and hints of strawberries. Drink it over the coming summer months; although, due to the high percentage of Mourvèdre, it should keep even through next year.

2015 ROSÉ

(13.1% alcohol; mostly from Boushey vineyard): Bright orange-gold. Sexy blood orange, currant and herbal aromas are complicated by a musky yeasty note. Rich, tactile and savory, conveying an impression of texture without weight. An intriguing note of pomegranate provides lift. This pink wine has the palate presence of a red; mouth tasters will score it even higher than I did.

2014 ROSÉ

(13.1% alcohol; real rosé): Full orange-copper color. Inviting aromas and flavors of redcurrant, stone fruits, flowers and dried herbs accented by blood orange. Boasts terrific juicy intensity and grip. Not fleshy but shapely and firm, with serious acidity making this a distinctly serious rosé.

2013 ROSÉ

(a blend of 49% Grenache, 38% Mourvedre and 13% cinsault): Copper-orange with a pink tinge. Inviting aromas of strawberry and cranberry are accented by pepper and spice notes from the Mourvedre. Wonderfully silky and fine-grained, with lively acidity buffering the wine’s subtle sweetness (reportedly just over two grams per liter). Red berry flavors are complicated by a hint of watermelon, a subtle leesy quality and a light saline character. Very intense rosé with insinuating length. Should make a great outdoor wine for next summer.

2012 ROSÉ

(a blend of grenache, mourvedre and cinsault): Aromas and flavors of strawberry and melon. Juicy and energetic, with terrific creamy intensity and tactile character. 2012 ROSÉ

An outstanding rose, the 2012 Doyenne Rose sports a light-salmon color to go with Provencal styled aromas and flavors of strawberries, cherry blossom and herbs de Provence. Medium-bodied, rounded and supple, with excellent fruit and good texture, it has the freshness to stand on its own, but will be best on the dinner table. Drink it over the coming year.

2011 ROSÉ

(63% grenache and 37% mourvedre; this bottling included cinsault in 2010 and 2009): Full orange color. Lively, fruit-driven aromas of raspberry, strawberry, cranberry, watermelon, spices and earth. Quite dry and brisk, with strawberry, blood orange and spice flavors accented by a light leafy nuance and a firm edge of acidity. Finishes firm and dry. A superb, crisp rose.

2011 ROSÉ

Composed of Grenache plus 37% Mourvedre (which has dominated earlier, Bandol-inspired installments), all grown at Boushey or Ciel du Cheval, the 2011 Doyenne Rose delivers strawberry and purple plum fruit on a full, glossy, glycerol-rich, infectiously juicy palate, with Darjeeling tea, jasmine, and faint toasted nuttiness adding further interest and allure in an at once soothing and refreshing – not to mention lingering – finish. Enjoy this fine value over the next 9-12 months, though lay-in lots if you expect it to last that long!

2010 ROSÉ

(55% grenache, 30% cinsault and 15% mourvedre; a “true” rose, as opposed to a wine made via saignee): Pale orange color. Musky, Bandol-like aromas of red fruits and spices, plus a hint of red pepper. Sweet and supple but juicy, with subtle notes of strawberry and melon rind lifted by a suggestion of blood orange. This really fills the mouth with fruit flavor while remaining light on its feet. Finishes with excellent length and sweetness. This intriguing rose is sold mostly through the winery’s tasting room.

2009 ROSÉ

(a blend of 51% grenache, 39% mourvedre and 10% cinsaut) Full medium orange. Musky mineral and soft citrus aromas. Silky in texture but with solid underlying structure for rose. Broad, rich and complex; this is almost made like a red wine (I might have picked it as Cote de Provence). Finishes broad and clean, with lovely building length. There are plenty of skin phenolics that will protect this wine against oxidation, notes winemaker Chris Peterson, but the finish is not particularly tannic.

2008 ROSÉ

(70% mourvedre, 15% grenache and 15% cinsault) Orange-pink color. Musky strawberry on the nose and palate. Supple and ripe, with good body but a light touch. Very attractive rose-and made via a gentle maceration, rather than by the saignee method.
