Doyenne 2014 Roussanne
This vintage proves to be one of our most outstanding Roussanne releases to date. The nose is a complex blend of Bosc pears, white flowers, minerals, vanilla, apricot pollen and star fruit. It’s a wine with assertive attack of vibrant flavors of juicy lime, agave nectar, pears, clover honey and a hint of mint in the finish. Roussanne’s ability to produce big, ripe flavors yet retain its bold natural acidity is apparent here. Demonstrating tremendous depth and structure, the 2014 vintage is truly a showcase wine.
Review by Stephen Tanzer for Vinous:
"Pale, bright yellow. Lemon curd, lime oil, pineapple, spices, honeysuckle and botanical herbs on the highly complex nose, plus a hint of petrol; smells a little like a salty breeze off the ocean. Densely packed and sappy, conveying a sweet/sour umami seaweed quality and a strong impression of dry extract. The concentrated lemon and honeysuckle flavors are lifted by a lovely floral topnote. This high-pitched wine dusts the palate on the brisk, very long finish. A portion of this very impressive wine was what winemaker Chris Upchurch described as "lower-tonnage, more oily Roussanne," fermented separately and left on its lees."
