The 2019 D2 aromas dance effortlessly between savory and dried fruit characteristics. Cranberries, roasted coffee beans, cassis and burnt orange are highlighted by deep, rich barrel tones of nutmeg, vanilla bean, dark chocolate and clove. As the wine develops in the glass, the fruit profile shifts between red and dark fruits, a trademark of D2 that we love. An inviting freshness and pronounced herbal quality on the palate leads to a structure that is refined despite the wine's youth.
D2 is sourced from over a dozen Columbia Valley Vineyards including Red Willow, Harrison Hill, Ciel du Cheval, Klipsun, Boushey, DuBrul, Upchurch, and Grand Ciel.
Cold soaked 24-36 hours, fermented for 12-14 days on skin, and aged 18 months in 100% French oak (55% new). Alcohol 14.3%
60% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petit Verdot
Food Pairing Notes
A beautiful partner for lean meats such as flank steak or bison, anything BBQ and lighter meats such as chicken. Brie or soft ripened cheeses are also a wonderful match.
D2 takes its name from the grand route du vin, or great wine road that travels through the historic chateau region of Bordeaux. Always leading with Merlot, D2 is a traditional Bordeaux-style blend sourced from over 15 of the state’s most prestigious vineyards across the Columbia Valley to create the ultimate expression of Washington State terroir. Created as a second to Chaleur Estate, D2 has become the winery’s most sought-after label. First vintage 1992.
