A red lovers dream! This set is a wonderful expression of Washington State reds, and includes our Merlot-dominant D2, our Syrah and Cabernet blend called Doyenne, and our Four Flags Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain.
Inviting pure fruit aromas of cherry, cranberry and blueberries introduce this 2015 D2, all respectfully framed by appealing oak notes of cocoa and wood spice. Soft and welcoming Merlot drives the entry with red currant before giving way to the power and structure of Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit is well balanced with savory notes of toasted fennel seeds and dried rosemary, with enjoyable oak influence and firm tannins on the sustained finish.
The 2014 Doyenne, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, exhibits deep purple and violet hues. There is great up-front hedonism in this year’s blend, which is dominated by blackberry, cassis, black cherry, lavender and sous bois (forest floor) notes. Right now the Syrah is dominating the flavors with black fruits, black pepper, bacon, tapenade, grenadine, malted chocolate and worn leather. This vintage produced a remarkable and seamless blend of these two noble grapes.
2014 Four Flags:
The 2014 Four Flags Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits classic Cabernet aromas of cassis, violets and Herbs de Provence. This wine screams of Red Mountain’s terroir with its combination of great structure and ripeness. On the palate, Four Flags is focused and savory with ripe, firm tannins. This vintage shows notes of fresh plums, currants and blueberries along with cardamom, fennel seed and a touch of flint.
