2014 Harrison Hill
The French concept of terroir recognizes that specific vineyard sites embody a unique marriage of climate, soil and vine. These characteristics unite to produce a wine of distinct personality that can only come from this particular place.
Steep slopes comprised of gravel and sandy loam soils define the Harrison Hill Vineyard. Over the past five decades, the vines have matured gracefully while producing progressively limited yields. This slow, elegant maturation is a compelling expression of what it means to be a terroir-driven wine.
Leading with a lifted floral scent and a hint of spice, the palate follows with a surprisingly feminine texture showing traces of fresh cherry and wild brambleberry. Cabernet Sauvignon (65%) provides a unique black cherry color while Merlot (25%), Cabernet Franc (9%), and Petit Verdot (1%) bring subtle undertones lending an even richer voice to this wine.

Coming from old Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted on Snipes Mountain, the 2014 Harrison Hill is a thrilling expression of Cabernet from Washington State. Possessing a singular bouquet of tobacco leaf, cedar, cherry, currants and spice, this medium to full-bodied beauty is seamless, impeccably balanced and has a great finish. It's one of those wines that grows on you with time in the glass, and while I thought it would need cellaring when I tasted it from barrel, it's already drinking beautifully. Nevertheless, it should be at its finest from 2022-2040.
